We welcome direct submissions from authors. Every complete submission is reviewed and considered according to the same criteria, including the project’s originality, coherence, fit with the x/is editions list, and practical feasibility. Simultaneous submissions with other publishers are welcome, but submissions are limited to one per author per calendar year, and authors should inform us if the project is accepted for publication elsewhere. Previously published projects will not be considered.
Email a prospectus as a single searchable PDF titled “Book Prospectus – [book title] – [your name]” to contact@xiseditions.com. Use the same wording in the subject line.
The PDF file should not exceed 5 MB to facilitate transfer.
Please do not send the full manuscript unless requested.
We aim to respond within four weeks. If you have not heard from us after four weeks, feel free to send a brief reminder.
To help us consider each project consistently, organize the prospectus as follows:
- Estimated word count and total page count
- Number of principal images, indicating color or grayscale
- Current manuscript status and target completion date
- Status of third-party image or text permissions (authors are responsible for securing necessary permissions)
- Design considerations or special format requirements
- Up to 2 representative chapters
- Up to 5 representative images
After reviewing the prospectus, we will either request the full manuscript, ask for clarification, suggest a conversation, or let you know that we are unable to pursue the project further. Because of the volume of submissions, we may not be able to provide detailed editorial feedback on projects we decline.
A declined proposal should not be resubmitted in revised form. Authors are welcome to submit a different project in a subsequent year.
